I was born and raised in Anchorage, AK. My professional experience is devoted to building Kelly Lawn and Landscaping, LLC since 1999. When I was 15 years old, working from my parent’s house on Campbell Lake, I started a lawn company. Each year our customer base in that area expanded and as our transportation methods were improved we expanded our service area. By my senior year in high school, Kelly, LLC serviced about 80 residential accounts.
I graduated from the University of Idaho and returned to work each summer in Anchorage. I started the Landscaping division of the company in 2003 when customers were asking if we were interested in providing additional services with the same quality and reliability they had come to expect from Kelly, LLC.
Becoming an entrepreneur has been full of lessons, learning the industry, responding to customers needs, and working with all the people along the way that have contributed to where the business is today. As long as Kelly Lawn and Landscaping, LLC is here, I will strive to maintain the same way of doing business that has contributed to our success. That is what I enjoy most about the work I do, no matter how well things are going or how complicated the situation is, the same sound basic principals apply when working together with people towards a common goal.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity.

Matt Madison – Landscaping Project Manager
I was born and raised in New Hampshire. My parents raised me in the small town of Bartlett surrounded by ski resorts and National Forest. I learned at a young age the value of hard work and taking pride in what you do. Whether it was chopping and stacking wood to heat the house or helping neighbors do lawn chores to get a little spending cash, I developed a love for a hard day’s work and the feeling of accomplishment.
At the age of 15 I got a job with a local entrepreneur who owned a New England Gift Shop/ Cider Mill and a Masonry business. I spent my summer vacations learning the art and skill of fitting stone to stone to create beautiful fire places, chimneys, farmer’s walls, retaining walls, patios, and even a trickling waterfall now and again. I gained an appreciation for the creativity and beauty of natural landscapes and creating beautiful surroundings in people’s back yards and living rooms.
After growing up and working in a professional masonry business for 8 years, I began to grow restless and was ready for an adventure. My significant other and I packed our belongings and drove across country and landed in Anchorage, AK. I quickly found work on landscape crews utilizing the skills I already possessed. After a chance encounter with Dan Holland, the Division Manager, and the discovery of mutual friends back in New Hampshire, I found myself putting in full landscapes for Kelly LLC.
After meeting Colby and Dan and seeing the level of professionalism and pride they take in their work I knew I had found a company I would be happy to represent. I spent a year as a foreman for a landscape crew, meeting the suppliers, the customers, and gaining an ever growing knowledge of Anchorage and the surrounding areas. At the end of 2010 I was promoted to Project Manager and began working more in the office. I have settled into my role within the company and enjoy creating natural landscapes that please both customer and installer alike.
By joining Kelly Lawn & landscaping, LLC, I have had the privilege to meet new people, see new places, and create beautiful landscapes for people’s homes and businesses. I find my own roots growing deeper and deeper. I have a feeling I won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. I look forward to the future with Kelly Lawn & Landscaping and hope to someday to be able to create a new beautiful landscape for your home.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Agronomy and Horticulture with an emphasis in Urban Landscaping Development. While a student at BYU, I worked with the turf management crew to keep what I consider one of the most beautiful campuses in the country in tip top condition. From the rolling hills that adorn the campus to the heavily worn football, soccer and intramural sports fields, I was charged with making sure these green belts were as lush and healthy as possible throughout the growing season. I also worked in BYU’s reputable Soil Science Laboratory where I analyzed soil samples from across the globe and made fertilizer recommendations based on each soil’s constitutive nutrients. I knew then that turf management and its underlying dependence on soil health were to be my life’s passion.
After graduating I returned to the world of turf management as I constructed two new golf courses in central Utah. After leading the entire construction efforts of The Links at Sleepy Ridge (Orem, UT) as the Superintendent of Construction, I continued on with that golf course as the Golf Course Superintendent where I managed this 18-hole course and its grounds with a $500,000 yearly operating budget and 40,000 annual rounds played. It might be an understatement to say that I am meticulous about my grass, which is probably the reason why this golf course was ranked as one of the finest in Utah and one of Golf Digest’s favorite new golf courses of 2005.
But my roots in Palmer and call of the wild beckoned me back to Alaska, and I have spent the past four years with Evergreen Nursery in Anchorage managing nursery operations and helping customers like yourself find the right landscaping materials to fit the unique needs of this region. I am so pleased to now be working with Kelly Lawn and Landscaping, and I hope you will be pleased with the quality of work my experiences can offer. I plan to maintain your landscape with as much professionalism and care as I have in all my other landscaping endeavors, and that your landscape will flourish accordingly.

Tera Douglas – Office Manager
I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and have always loved it here. I have several years of bookkeeping and clerical experience, although I hold a degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating college I wasn’t sure what field I was interested in to put my degree to use, so began looking for clerical work in the interim, which I already had experience with. I found that Colby Kelly was looking for an office manager and it has been one of the best positions I have found myself in yet. I truly enjoy my job with Kelly Lawn and Landscaping and have remained in this position since 2010.
I am always available to help answer questions whether it is regarding landscaping and maintenance applications, snow removal, billing, or service requests. If I do not know the answer, you can be sure that I will find out and get back to you in a timely manner. I take pride in my work and getting to know our customers and their property needs as well as assisting the other mangers with scheduling services, coordinating meetings and tending to their projects.
In the years since I have started with the company, my knowledge of landscaping and maintenance has continued to grow and I find myself enjoying this field of work more and more. I see a long future ahead for me with Kelly Lawn and Landscaping. I look forward to working with you and assisting in any way you may need.

I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and have been in the Landscape and Snow Removal field for 30+ seasons. I have owned a landscaping company in the past as well as been the GM for the largest nursery in the state of Alaska, employing 50+ local, seasonal Alaskans.
I have a good knowledge of the various plant material that thrives in our local environment. In my years in the industry, I have done everything from river bank revetment to massive soil remediation projects to large scale erosion control as well as every scope of residential landscaping. I would say my specialty is hardscaping such as retaining walls, patios and outdoor living spaces although I always try to incorporate plant material in almost all applications. I have also done several large water features in the course of my career and especially enjoy the challenge of constructing these to stand up to the local environment. I have done ponds, waterfalls and streams that house live fish as well as many features that are fish free.
